If I had to summarize my experience with John into advice, I’d really need only two words “Hire Him!” I used John as a designer for the second house that I built south of Carmel. Honestly, without John I don’t know if this project would have happened. At first I worked with an architect who was frustrating on so many levels, and spent a lot of money for literally nothing. A friend recommended John and everything just flowed after that. From the beginning, our vision of the project was aligned. Maybe that was a coincidence, but John’s ability to listen most likely played a role. It also helped to be able to use people John knows for things like structural engineering. These types of people are very busy and often don’t call back owner builders. Once the plans were drawn, John promptly responded to the revisions requested by my notoriously difficult city building department, and I had my permits in hand within three months. It took a year to get permits for a similar project at my neighbor’s house across the street. For me John designed a simple but elegant ADU for my mom to live in. But for my friend who recommended him to me, he designed a beautiful, large modern house on top of a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the Carmel Highlands.
